Professional Societies
The Material Handling Institute is the home of professional societies and associations
for practitioners, consultants and end users in the field of materials handling and
management. These organizations exist to support the career development needs of the
materials handling professional; to promote the dissemination of knowledge concerning
the field of materials handling; and to provide innovative, quality educational programs
and forums for their members. Networking, publications and conferences are just a few of
the benefits of membership in a professional society. For more information on a specific
organization, click on the name of the organization as it appears below or in the

The Materials Handling & Management Society (MHMS)
is an independent professional
society which was formed over 40 years ago. Established to serve professionals in the
field of materials handling, MHMS is dedicated to disseminating information, exchanging
ideas and providing educational experiences for its members. The Society provides
opportunities for continuing education and provides a wealth of resources designed to
enhance professional development, including an internationally recognized certification
program.

The Association of Professional Material
Handling Consultants (APMHC) is an independent
organization composed of individual consultants. APMHC was organized in 1959 by several
industry leaders who saw the need for more reliable, capable, and professional services
in the material handling consulting field. The association promotes and coordinates the
exchange of information and ideas among members. It encourages the improvement of analysis
and the development of standards of performance; and aids and assists other groups in
promoting materials handling, generally, and the consulting profession, specifically.
