Conveyor Practice Guideline

The APMHC and the Conveyor Product Sections joined to develop a recognized set of Conveyor Practice Guidelines.

Conveyors like most material handling systems function well if we can properly describe the functions that we ask them to perform. The key issue is often in developing a functional description of the material handling requirements that all participants equally understand.

To facilitate the process of developing a clear lexicon of terms and provide a framework in which these could be used, the Conveyor Product Section of MHI and the APMHC (Association of Professional Material Handling Consultants) jointly embarqued on a program to develop a recognized set of Conveyor Practice Guidelines several years ago. These are intended to be used as a voluntary standard industry framework for use by an end user/owner project team in the creation of procurement specification to accompany a system request for quotation.

The intention is to provide these to consultants, users, and suppliers in the hope of reducing the misunderstandings that now occur. To date several members from both organizations have graciously contributed considerable time and effort, to develop the practice guidelines in their current format.

A key objective of the conveyor industry was to develop a process which would allow their members to propose design solutions beyond a base line system which would meet both performance and safety requirements specified.
