Industry Groups

Many of the activities of Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) take place within the Industry Groups below. MHIA member companies who are also members of these Industry Groups demonstrate their industry leadership in their particular product area as well as their commitment to excellence, safety and quality in the products and services they provide. They supply these equipment and systems worldwide and in virtually every major manufacturing and distribution sector.

Some typical activities of these groups include: industry statistics collection, standards development, and technical/safety publications and training.

Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of automated storage/retrieval systems.

College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education: is an independent organization which prepares and provides information, teaching materials and various events in support of material handling education and research.

Conveyor & Sortation Systems: members are the Industry’s leading providers of conveyors. They design, fabricate and install conveyor systems worldwide.

Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor (VRC) Subcommittee
members design, manufacture, and install VRCs worldwide for use in a wide variety of industrial, commercial, and institutional operating environments.

Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc.: members are the leading providers of overhead cranes.

Electrification and Controls Manufacturers Association: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of electrification and controlling devices.

Ergonomic Assist Systems and Equipment Council: is the resource for trends, information, practices, equipment, and organizations that focus on ergonomics and improving the working interface between people and the materials they must move and use to reduce injury, increase productivity while providing a significant return on investment.

Hoist Manufacturers Institute: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of overhead handling hoists including hand chain hoists, ratchet lever hoists, trolleys, air chain and air rope hoists, and electric chain and electric wire rope hoists.

Institute of Caster and Wheel Manufacturers: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of casters, wheels, bearings, and industrial trailer trucks, platform trucks and towline trucks.

Integrated Systems & Controls Council: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of integrated material handling and controls systems.

Lift Manufacturers: are the resource for industry best practices, standards, information, and equipment that lifts, rotates, tilts, and otherwise positions materials. Industry scissors lifts and tilters can also improve the working interface between people and the materials they must move to reduce injury, increase productivity, and eliminate wasted motion, while providing a significant return on investment.

Loading Dock Equipment Manufacturers: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of loading dock equipment.

Monorail Manufacturers Association, Inc.: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of patented and enclosed track underhung cranes and monorail systems.

Order Fulfillment Council: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of order selection, staging and storage equipment and systems.

Rack Manufacturers Institute, Inc.: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of Industrial Steel Storage Racks and Related Structural Systems. They supply industrial rack solutions worldwide.

Reusable Container and Pallet Association: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of the reusable/returnable industrial plastic containers, pallets and packaging.

Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of industrial storage equipment.

Supply Chain Execution Systems & Technologies Group: members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of Supply Chain Execution software, hardware and services.
