Engine racks stacked two high and ten deep, in dedicated over the road trucks, arrive just-in-time to this automobile assembly plant. Each double stack of engine racks is picked up by an AGV inside the truck and delivered to a conveyor network. The racks are then automatically de-stacked, and an automated device removes the engines from the racks.
Empty racks are returned from the conveyor network, picked up by the AGV and returned to the empty truck trailer. Each AGV serves two truck docks - unloading engines and loading empty racks.
When idle, each AGV sits at a charge station located between the two truck docks it services, automatically charging its battery. The AGVs are guided by state-of-the-art digital guidance, which features very high guidance reliability and self-tuning of the guidepath circuit.
The AS/RS, along with heavy-duty roller and chain conveyor, all inventory controls, conveyor tracking software, and interface to the assembly plant's assembly line sequencing database were supplied as part of the integrated material handling system.
