AGV System Increases Productivity & Efficiency While Maintaining Safety
Located in East Liberty, Ohio this location in the automotive industry houses a final assembly plant. One of the largest of its kind in North America, the system includes automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) and state-of-the-art controls technology.
The system has 58 vehicles featuring two different styles: a long bed for exhaust and brake systems delivery and a short bed for the delivery of pallet sized materials.
Assembly materials arrive by truck and are manually unloaded by lift trucks. Lift trucks deliver the materials to a sortation system where they are automatically loaded onto an AGV for distribution to the line. The vehicles are automatically dispatched to the correct location via the control system. This system monitors material movement throughout the entire facility.
The primary guidance system is a virtual map on-board the vehicle, however the vehicle also uses a Laser guidance system. An oscillating laser on-board the vehicle locates and triangulates its exact position in the facility.
These vehicles use a shuttle transfer mechanism. All power for the pickup/delivery of materials is handled by a shuttle transfer mechanism. Each vehicle includes a touch screen display and ID Scan Card Reader.
