Automation Provides Cost Efficient Solution for Customer
A major food manufacturer with a plant location in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, wanted to provide Just In Time (JIT) delivery to its docks. They determined after evaluating several alternatives that an Automatic Laser Guided Vehicle (AGV) system could provide the necessary solution.

The system needed to take into account safety as well as cost-efficiencies. The vehicles would use the latest laser technology to determine objects in the vehicle’s path and stop automatically until the path became unobstructed.

Load present sensors were utilized to initiate a material pickup call. The system controller manages vehicle traffic and directs the closest fork style AGV to move and pickup the load.  Once the load is picked up the vehicle uses the on-board traffic manager to deliver the finished goods to a drop-off stand in the warehouse.

LGV System Utilizes the Latest Software for Total Solution
The food manufacturer benefited from the use of the supplier’s software, which is easily adaptable, providing maximum flexibility in controlling the AGVs and making changes in the system as needed.

The result was a comprehensive solution that automated a previously manual process to provide Just In Time Delivery to the docks, taking into account cost and safety.
