Automation Provides Significant Cost Savings, Increases Production and Increases Safety:
A manufacturer of heavy equipment with two plant locations in North Dakota wanted to upgrade their current automatic guided vehicle system (AGVS). The old system was used today to carry heavy parts and partially assembled product down an assembly line.

The new system would need to integrate with the old system that was still operating efficiently. The supplier worked with the customer to determine the best solution. The AGVs would be used throughout the supply chain process (pre-production, production and finished goods.)

The supplier determined that the customer could greatly benefit from the use of quad steer technology, which allowed the vehicles to move forwards, backwards and 90 degrees to either side. Through the use of quad movement, the vehicle could operate in a much smaller space than with single-steer drive.

AGV Integrates with Robot to Create a Total Solution:  The AGV was integrated with a robot to do the welding. This removed the operators from the hazards of welding. The AGV system was chosen over a mechanical conveyor system because of its flexibility including the ability to easily modify the system as production changed.

The result was a comprehensive solution that integrated 66 vehicles to automate a manufacturer and both increase production and safety.
