Windows NT Host Computer controls eight automatic guided reach trucks with Hydraulic 3.0m (120”) lift. Vehicles transport pallets of Signature and Finished Product up to 1360kg (3,000 lbs.)

Pallets of signatures and finished product are picked up, transported and delivered by Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) Reach Trucks between the pressroom, Work In Process storage, binding/finishing and shipping.

The Plant Inventory Computer communicates pallet pickup notification and location as well as a delivery location to a Automatic Vehicle Manager. Communication between the AGVs and the AGV Manager is via a high-speed Radio Frequency network.

The production process begins with signature pallets created in the pressroom. Pallets are prepared and placed in designated locations for pickup by the AGVs for delivery to the head of the put away aisle in Work In Process storage. The new WIP rack storage building has the capacity of storing approximately 10,800 pallets.

The trucks pick up pallets of Work In Process signatures and deliver them to the finishing areas. In response to Radio Frequency bar code scanner input from the finishing operators, finished product is picked and delivered to a buffer conveyor between finishing and shipping.
