A large food/beverage warehouse was looking for a way to double their production without enduring the task of hiring additional employees. At the same time, they were also looking to find a safe and reliable way to transport pallets of product throughout their warehouse.
A labor-free solution was found by installing a fleet of 4 automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) into the warehouse to automate the 3 production lines: storage, transportation and dispatch of pallets.
The AGVs automatically store the product pallets up to 2 meters high, in long storage aisles in “deepstack-fashion.” Pallets are stored by the AGVs two pallets high and are organized in aisle according to date and type of production runs.
Then automatically, according to delivery schedules from the Warehouse Management System (WMS), product is pulled by AGVs and delivered to the shipping dock. Product is again placed in aisles in deepstack fashion on the floor in preparation for shipment.
The special navigation system of the vehicle is provided by laser guidance that is positioned at the top of the vehicle. This laser guidance allows the vehicle to navigate above the highest stacked pallet taking into account any unevenness of the floor in the warehouse that may interfere with the travel path of the vehicle.
The AGV system provides reliable real-time and online control over the finished products inventory in the warehouse.
