College Industry Council on Material Handling Education

1999-2000 Design Competition Summary

The College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE) and The Material Handling Institute are pleased to announce the results of the 2000 Materials Handling Student Design Competition. Fourteen teams of students from eight different engineering schools (Penn State, Purdue, NC State, Arkansas, Missouri-Columbia, Montana State, USC, and Virginia Tech) competed by developing a plan for the overall improvement of a fictitious company named Fortune Filling Inc. As presented in a case study format, the company supplied three large fast food chains with an array of packaged flour products. Under the supervision of a faculty advisor, teams were allowed only five weeks to write a 30-page report and submit Autocad drawings to recommend and justify improvements to the facility layout, material handling systems, and operating procedures of Fortune Filling.
