Nissan Castings is an Australian castings plant for transmission housings. In this work cell, they were loading and unloading alloy transmission castings into a jig where a quick machining process takes place.

Issues:
The castings weight 26-33 lb (12-15 kg) each. Nissan wanted to find a precision lifting system so that their operators were not manually lifting these castings multiple times per shift. They knew that electric chain hoists and vacuum lifters did not give them the control they needed to precisely place the castings.

Gorbel's Solution:
Representatives from the plant saw a hands-on demonstration of Gorbel's Easy Arm™ and decided that this would provide them with the effortless lifting they needed to protect their operators and the precision placement they needed to protect the castings.

Easy Arm's optional "Float Mode" gives operators even more control by enabling them to guide the castings into the jig with both hands on the part itself. Plus, because the Easy Arm™ is a self-contained unit on a portable base, it can be relocated anywhere in the factory.

Results:
The Easy Arm™ was a huge hit in the plant before it was even operational! On the day it was installed, newly trained operators were calling other operators over to see this new lifting device that acted like a balancer, without all the added buttons and levers. Its Float Mode feature continues to impress operators with its ability to guide the casting smoothly into place without intermediary controls.

Optional Float Mode on the Easy Arm™ allows operators to guide product with both hands on the part itself. Plus, the unit can be easily relocated anywhere in a factory.
