Features/Benefits Provided: HoistMonitor Elite Intermediate Load Limit Settings Restricted Area Protection

OVERVIEW: The project required a double girder top running crane with one hoist for use in a special dual capacity application. The runway was designed with a 40-ton zone at one end and a 10-ton zone at the other end. The hoist and crane had to have a maximum capacity of 40-ton but be restricted to 10-ton when needed.

SOLUTION: R&M provided a QX Modular Crane Package utilizing the Spacemaster SX electric wire rope hoist with the optional HoistMonitor Elite (a control device that provides advanced diagnostic information and customized functionality to hoist and crane operations) and engineered Restricted Area Protection. A feature of the HoistMonitor Elite is "Intermediate Load Limit Settings". This feature used in conjunction with the engineered Restricted Area Protection option set a 10-ton capacity restriction on the crane when it was positioned in a certain area of the runway. If the crane traveled into the 10-ton zone with more than a 10-ton load, it stopped until the excess load was removed. While in the 10-ton zone, the crane's capacity was limited to 10-ton, but in the 40-ton zone it was able to lift its maximum capacity of 40-ton.

WRAP UP: The R&M HoistMonitor Elite combined with the engineered Restricted Area Protection option allowed the crane to operate at a 40-ton or a 10-ton, depending on its position along the runway.
