  • Fully-utilized vertical space
  • Enhanced organization
  • Increased productivity

Problem
This University Medical Center is the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services in the state of New Jersey. Improvement in the hospital's Distribution Services Department was needed as it was being slowed by an inefficient storage system, which consisted entirely of wire racking and wooden pallets. Also, the storage space in the 3700 sq. ft. supply room was underutilized.

Objective
To maintain its quality of care and education, the hospital strives to ensure that every department is operating at peak efficiency.

Solution
After examining several storage options, they selected a modular storage system from the Solutions Provider. They opted to replace its old inflexible, inefficient system with 54 sections of storage wall systems. Arranged in nine, convenient, organized rows, the storage wall systems features high-density modular drawers, rollout trays and adjustable shelves, all of which filled unique roles for the hospital.

Within the drawers, smaller, faster-moving items, such as ostemy supplies, hand lotions and soaps are stored. Heavier items, including custom packs for surgical procedures, are stored on the roll-out trays. In addition, surgical gloves, suction tubing, gauze, sponging and other bulk supplies are conveniently kept on adjustable shelves above the drawers.

Benefits
With the new system, storage was condensed so that overall storage capacity was increased by 40%. The department is better organized, and since supplies are easier to locate, the picking process has been improved.

"This solution is far superior to the racking and pallet system we were using".
