UCS
Uniform Container Symbol...Designation for product identification which generally utilizes bar codes and is imprinted on the product container or packaging.

Under running crane
An electric overhead traveling crane having the end trucks supported on track attached to the bottom flanges of the beam; or supported on bottom flanges of beams. These beams make up the crane runway.

Underhang
Refers to the less than complete utilization of the full pallet area and is generally the amount of space between the outer edge of the cartons or packages and the edges of the pallet.

Uniformly distributed load.
The per square inch weight of the pallet load does not vary from one point to another on the pallet. Indicates that the load on a pallet is evenly distributed.

Unit Load AGV
A unit load AGV is a powered, wheel based transport vehicle that carries a discrete load, such as an individual item (e.g. a large roll of paper, coil of steel or automobile engine) or items contained on a pallet or in a tote or similar temporary storage medium. AGVs operate under computer control without the need for human operators or drivers. See also AGVS.

Unit Load AS/RS
A type of automatic storage and retrieval system that handles large loads (500 to 1000 lbs. and up) that are often placed on pallets or contained in pallet size plastic, wooden or industrial metal containers. Certain large loads, for example steel coils or paper rolls, may also be handled without a pallet base or container. See also AS/RS.
