Evaluating Ergonomics

Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Evaluating manual material handling tasks and applying ergonomic solutions, including ergonomic assist devices, is a major problem in manufacturing and warehousing today. A software package, The Ergonomics Toolbox, produced by the EASE Council of Material Handling Industry of America, addresses this challenge. The program contains four key components:

  • Introduction to Ergonomics. An overview of ergonomics and material handling that defines the various types of ergonomic interventions and explains analysis of the work system/task.
  • Ergonomics Hazards. An educational section that defines primary task characteristics with AVI video and text.
  • Task Evaluation. A task analysis tool with drop-down menus that is an accurate assessment based on the most widely used analysis tools. The program allows users to input job criteria and then receive material handling parameters based on the job.
  • Equipment Recommendation. Based on the criteria generated in the Task Evaluation section, users can review a selection of ergonomic assist devices that can provide solutions to their specific problems.

The Ergonomics Toolbox is one of the best ways to demonstrate the interaction of ergonomics and material handling. Cost of the CD-ROM is $75 per copy plus $5 handling and shipping, To order, phone 704/676-1190-800/345-1815 and ask for the literature department. Or order online at the Industry Bookstore.
