We are very excited to be part of NASA's Twin Gravity Recovery And Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) spacecraft mission. The purpose of the GRAIL mission is to further advance an understanding of the moon's thermal evolution.
American Crane's MST (Mobile Service Tower) Single Failure Proof Crane helped build and later placed the payload (housing the GRAIL Twins) on top of the Delta II rocket. This Single Failure Proof Crane enabled the successful transfer, given the redundancy feature of its wire rope hoist. This crane has also assisted in such space missions as Skynet4D, Galaxy-10, Mars Polar Lander/DS-2, Orion F-3 and many others.
The launch is scheduled to take place on Sept. 8, 2011 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. To read more about the GRAIL operation visit www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/grail/news/grail20110824.html .
