Increased efficiency for distribution centres

Red Bull reorders dynamic storage technology from Interroll

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Sant'Antonino/Switzerland. The Interroll Group, a global player in the fields of conveyor technology, logistics and automation, received a new order from Red Bull in Thailand to supply dynamic storage technology for 12,670 pallet positions in a new local distribution centre.

To support its growing business in Thailand, Red Bull placed a repeat order in June 2011 for Interroll dynamic storage technology to be installed in a new local distribution centre. The company was seeking a solution to add and maximise the capacity of the DC with the most suitable system for wooden Loscam pallets of 1200mm/1000mm/1300mm (LxWxH) weighing up to 1000 kg. The new DC would have to handle peak volumes most efficiently, reduce travel distances and the number of forklift trucks. In addition, the installation should be protected against damages through forklift truck operation and ensure a rapid return on investment.

Positive experience from first order
The positive experience gained with a flow storage solution from Interroll for 7700 pallets in a DC built in 2009 motivated Red Bull to entrust Interroll with supplying dynamic storage equipment for the new warehouse. "From the beginning, we supported the project with our know-how and expertise from many other applications, says Grisorn Nakapong, Managing Director of Interroll (Thailand) Co. Ltd. Interroll also provided a selection of viable layouts and organised site visits. "We were also able to show concrete proof of the superior performance of cart pushback technology vs. drive-in racking in areas where only one aisle for loading and unloading would be used," Grisorn Nakapong adds.

Safe and space-saving pallet handling
The new DC, located in the industrial estate of Bangsang, Prachinburi, near Bangkok, provides a total of 12,670 pallet positions for FIFO (first in, first out) pallet flow storage and LIFO (last in, first out) cart pushback storage. The FIFO section has 7,840 pallet positions with gravity lanes accommodating 16 pallets each and 2 safety separators for maximum pallet handling safety, with the first separator in the middle of the lane. The LIFO cart pushback section, storing a total of 4,830 pallets in lanes 4-deep and 5-deep, restricts all loading and unloading operations for 3 pushback blocks to 2 space-saving aisles.
