Dematic Enhances Order Fulfillment Engineering Laboratory

Additions to Lab Highlight Design, Demonstration, and Comparison of Real Time Paperless Order Fulfillment

Grand Rapids, Mich., Monday December 17, 2007 – Dematic, a leader in logistics automation solutions, systems and service, has enhanced the company’s engineering laboratory designed to demonstrate efficient solutions for paperless real time order fulfillment. Located in Dematic Corp’s Grand Rapids, Michigan headquarters, visitors to the Order Fulfillment Lab can view live demonstrations of voice directed activities, put to light, pick to light, pickcarts, RF picking, and the related WCS software that controls these systems.

Dematic’s Order Fulfillment Lab allows users to perform a comprehensive evaluation of leading edge paperless order fulfillment methods and technologies. Visitors can compare all the technologies side by side and make an educated and accurate assessment of the solution that is most appropriate for their operation.

The Dematic Order Fulfillment Lab includes fully operational “Pick to Light” and “Put to Light” modules to demonstrate high volume, split case order picking. Modules for voice directed picking, PickCarts and RF picking are also set up to demonstrate order fulfillment for medium to low velocity SKUs.

Visitors to the Order Fulfillment Lab can also see how multiple order fulfillment technologies can be blended into a single solution for optimal results. As all picking technologies are supported by Dematic’s PickDirector software, users can now assign certain SKUs to the most appropriate picking technology based on velocity and location in the warehouse. “Densely located fast moving SKUs might be better suited to use light directed technology, while medium and slow moving inventory may use voice directed technology--all operating on one integrated software platform” said George Feigley, manager of software services for Dematic.
