Ergonomic assist system speeds picking of high volume SKUs

Grand Rapids, Mich., Monday, January 15, 2008 – Dematic, a leader in logistics automation solutions, systems and service, has introduced a next generation design of the company’s ergonomic depalletizing and carton singulation station, or Ergo Depal solution.
Dematic’s Ergo Depal solution is designed optimize high volume picking and carton induction into a mechanized conveying and sorting systems and improve operator efficiency for picking high volume SKU cartons and hard to handle products.
Full Pallets (unit loads) are elevated to an initial picking position and the operator adjusts the level
as needed as the pallet is depleted. A pushbutton activates both the empty pallet release to an empty pallet stacker and the replenishment of a new pallet load. The operator immediately proceeds to the second position where the new pallet load is positioned.
The patented Ergo Depal solution is pre-assembled at Dematic using the company’s robust heavy load pallet conveyor, which is designed to convey heavy unit loads. The pre-built, modular conveyor units reduce installation cost and time.
According to Chris Siegwart, product manager with Dematic, the volume capacity of the Ergo Depalletizer varies based on carton density on the pallet, carton weight, and carton size. With a pallet density of at least 22 cartons per pallet and no more than 80 cube, a rate of around 950 cartons per hour can be achieved,” said Siegwart.
Dematic has already implemented over 100 Ergo Depalletizer systems in carton picking applications.
