The material handling industry is continuing to look for new and innovative ways of increasing productivity and decreasing costs. Automation solutions are continuously evaluated as an option for achieving these goals. One such automation technology is the use of Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs). AGVs have been around for almost 40 years and have continued to become more advanced. As automation processes are forever evolving, companies involved in AGVS technology continue to harness new developments to better serve the end user community with the objective of increasing productivity and reducing costs. With this advancement AGVs have also become more flexible, user-friendly and cost effective.

The technical evolution now taking place in the material handling industry originates from changing consumer behavior. This session, presented at NA 08, gave an overview of how AGV suppliers have made giant leaps in technology in recent years to give end users the ability to react to the ever-changing consumer. Traditionally there were limits to where AGVs could be utilized efficiently, but today AGVs are dynamic in every sense of the word . . . so get moving with AGVs: From receiving, to production, to shipping!
