High-speed storage & sortation system outpaces manual picking systems and uses 30% less energy than standard AS/RS systems

SALT LAKE CITY—The DUOSYS is Daifuku’s newest Automated Storage & Retrieval System (AS/RS) product. It is configured as a high-throughput mini load that effectively sorts and groups totes or cases. Unlike a standard mini load, DUOSYS features two Storage Retrieval Machines (SRM) functioning in the same aisle. The SRMs work side by side and move past each other without interference to perform storage and retrieval operations.
A DUOSYS is laid out in two levels (with two SRMs operating within each level )so that four SRMs operate simultaneously on the same rack to produce a maximum throughput of up to 2,200 cases per hour, which is six times more than a conventional system (averaging 330 cases per hour) in the same footprint. Throughput will vary depending upon system configuration to meet specific customer requirements.
DUOSYS requires less floor space and significantly outpaces manual picking operations, enabling a company to use fewer workers to pick the same order volume than used for traditional sorters and horizontal sorting systems.
Other notable features include energy efficiency, zero idle time, and the ability to operate if one of the SRMs is being serviced.
Energy efficiency comes in the form of lower power consumption (SRMs weigh less than older models) and the utilization of regenerative power (machines store and reuse their own power produced when slowing down). The overall system uses 30 percent less energy than a standard AS/RS performing the same function.
Each SRM has a maximum horizontal speed of 300m/min and a maximum vertical speed of 40 m/min. Load transfer time takes between 2.5 and 4.5 seconds depending upon system configuration.
