FORT WORTH, TX – Bluff Manufacturing, Inc., (www.bluffmanufacturing.com), a leading provider of material handling and warehouse safety equipment to companies throughout the U.S, Mexico, Canada and Caribbean, has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of Dallas-based B&L Structures, Inc. (www.BandLStructures.com), a national steel manufacturer whose clients include NASA, Tuesday Morning, Burlington Coat Factory, Anderson Systems (a division of Wal-Mart which distributes books and music), and Abiall (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boeing Company), which boasts the largest mezzanine structure in Texas.
Details of the acquisition are not being disclosed, but Bluff Manufacturing confirms the deal has been structured to provide B&L’s owners a seven-figure payout over the next four years. In addition, the B&L Structures brand will be retained and production of B&L Structures’ products, previously outsourced, will be moved to Bluff’s Fort Worth headquarters. The products will continue to be available through B&L’s national network of distributors, many of which also work with Bluff Manufacturing.
According to Bluff Manufacturing President Clark Smith, the purchase is a strategic move to increase its current product offerings and gain market share.
“We made the decision to acquire B&L Structures because it adheres to our philosophy of innovative design, quality craftsmanship and providing value to the customer,” stated Smith, noting Bluff will create several new positions as a result of the purchase, including an engineer, draftsman, dedicated support services representative, and several certified welders. “Like all Bluff products, these focus on increasing in-plant efficiency, space utilization and safety.”
The acquisition of B&L Structures, which began operations in the 1970s, will add several new products to Bluff Manufacturing’s portfolio, including mezzanines, multi-level carton flow system, multi-level shelving units, multi-level carousel picking systems, free standing conveyor support structures, stairways, service and maintenance platforms, heavy duty pallet and cantilever rack, work platforms, mobile units, and vertical reciprocating conveyor systems.
In addition, B&L Structures’ exterior handrails and guide rail systems complement Bluff Manufacturing’s existing Crash Guard warehouse safety products, which include safety rail, rack guard, machine guard, pipe guard, floor rail, post protector, door track protector and modular protective barrier.
Bluff Manufacturing began to produce its Crash Guard product line in 1998 to improve plant efficiency and stop damage by forklifts and all other powered and manual equipment within a warehouse or plant. Designed to protect both employees and equipment, Crash Guard safety products reduce the costs associated with employee injury, machinery down time, insurance claims, and building repairs due to accidental collisions.
For more than 40 years, Bluff Manufacturing has been recognized as an innovative leader in the fabrication and design of high quality dock, warehouse, and safety equipment. Bluff Manufacturing, whose customers include Frito Lay, Lumber Liquidators and ABF, is one of the only companies to meet the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) MH30.2 standard, ensuring some of the highest quality products and providing customers with great value. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Bluff Manufacturing serves the entire U.S. through a national distributor network, and the company’s 11 distribution warehouses ensure quick delivery of the company’s entire product line including yard ramps, dock boards, dock levelers, wheel risers, and safety barrier product Crash Guard.
