AVNET Logistics, one of the world’s largest distributors of electronic components, has decided to implement an order picking and storage system from Swisslog for its new distribution center outside Munich in Poing, Germany.
Swisslog will implement its AutoStore solution, which is a dense system of bins in an aluminum grid accessed by a series of robots. The first stage of the installation will include approximately 45,000 bins and 37 robots, providing operators the capability to pick from 680 different bins per hour.
Ludger Tillmann, CEO at AVNET Logistics commented: “We decided in favor of the AutoStore solution not just because it is highly efficient, but also because it can be adapted perfectly to suit our facility and will further optimize our warehouse space utilization. Another important factor for us is that capacities can be increased in the future without interrupting our business operations.”
Completion of installation is planned in February 2011.
