American Logistics Aid Network Monitoring Path of Hurrican Earl

Thursday, September 02, 2010

The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) is closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Earl and working with volunteer and emergency management agencies to determine how to best aid their response efforts.

Should Hurricane Earl create significant relief needs on the Atlantic Coast ALAN will:

  • Post needs of relief agencies on the web portal (www.alanaid.org).
  • Sponsor calls for interested parties to provide updates on relief efforts and needs.
  • Post information about relief efforts and sources of information on the ALAN website.

ALAN asks for help in the following ways:

  • If you have regional leadership structures in the area likely to be impacted please share our plans with them, or should you wish we are glad to assist with that distribution.
  • Absent specific regional structures if there are individuals or companies who take leadership roles in the area please share our intents with them.
  • In the days following an event interest is high however information as to specific needs may take several days to a week to emerge as gaps come into focus.

ALAN serves as a primary point of industry contact for disaster relief support. ALAN makes donation needs visible to the logistics industry and establishes an efficient process for providing the necessary goods and services through its web portal, www.alanaid.org. Needs for supply chain expertise, products, equipment, and services such as transportation, warehousing and material handling are matched with available donations. Read ALAN's blog for updates.

Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) is proud to be a founding sponsor of ALAN. MHIA is an international trade association that has represented the material handling & logistics industry since 1945. MHIA members include material handling and logistics equipment and systems manufacturers, integrators, consultants, publishers, and third party logistics providers. Member companies come from all areas of material handling and various parts of the world, making MHIA a strong national and international representative for the material handling industry. Much of the work of the industry is done within its product-specific sections, councils and affiliates. The association also sponsors trade events, such as ProMat 2011 and MODEX 2012 to showcase the products and services of its member companies and to educate industry professionals on the productivity solutions provided through material handling and logistics.
