American Logistics Aid Network is Ready for Donations
Thursday, February 19, 2009
Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) announces that the The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) Web site at www.ALANAID.org is accepting donations and channel resources to approved agencies that provide disaster relief.
Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, MHIA was one of several organizations to join together to help provide humanitarian relief agencies with a gateway to logistics and supply chain industry resources. As a result, The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) was formed as a central organization to help coordinate these efforts. Over the past two years, ALAN has worked with FEMA, State(s) Emergency Operations Centers and numerous State Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) to create a more robust and structured platform across which to align donations to need and efficiently deliver solutions.
ALAN is accepting donations at www.ALANAID.org. Click the Donate button on the ALAN home page and you'll be directed to the ALAN portal on the Aidmatrix Network¨, a global supply chain for humanitarian relief. This partnership provides ALAN with real-time visibility into the specific items needed for donation as posted by the State Emergency Management Offices and the State Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).
According to John Nofsinger, CEO of MHIA, “ALAN was founded by the associations that make the supply chain efficiently operate on a daily basis. When a disaster strikes, we believe that it is our unique responsibility to utilize these same resources and expertise to help ensure that the necessary aid gets where it is needed as quickly as possible.”
In addition to MHIA, the founding members of ALAN include the following associations:
AFFI—American Frozen Food Institute
CSCMP—Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals
FMI—Food Marketing Institute
Feeding America
GMA—Grocery Manufacturers Association
IARW—International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses
IRTA—International Refrigerated Transportation Association
MHEDA—Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association
WERC—Warehousing Education and Research Council
WFLO—World Food Logistics Organization
