The Opportunity
A manufacturer of precision measuring equipment was looking for a way to remove test weights up to 1100 lbs from their calibration machine. The weights would need to be deposited and removed underneath overhead obstructions, in close proximity to the machine. Additional posts or columns in the surrounding floor space could not be added without impeding material flow.

The Solution
A Demag KBK Curved Track Monorail System provided the best solution to this material handling application. Unlike a Crane or Jib, the Monorail could be installed from the existing overhead structure, without the need for adding extra support columns in the work zone. A variety of methods for connecting the suspension hangers to the overhead structure were available as standard options, making it safe and easy to attach at different points along the length of the monorail. By using a combination of alternating curved and straight track sections the Monorail was shaped to closely match the profile of the machine. This allowed the weights to be picked, moved and deposited in the exact locations required. The low rolling resistance of the KBK Monorail system insured that every operation was completed with minimum effort. A Demag Electric Chain Hoist with two speed operation provided a safe and efficient method of lifting the parts.

Wrap Up
The monorail was less costly than a Crane or Jib and did not require additional support structures.

The system utilized stock parts and was quickly available and easily installed.

The weights could now be easily lifted and moved, increasing safety and productivity.
